High Brow Madonna goes three for three

madonna-iowa Bob Janssen rode High Brow Madonna x High Brow Cat to her third consecutive futurity finals finish for owners Mark & Patti Blackwell of Fresh Horses Farm. Congratulations on her success! Red Hot Chicaway narrowly missed the finals this time around. Congratulations to Red Hot Chicaway’s owner, Catherine Hazelroth, on her Non-Pro Derby Championship. Way to go, Cath!

Bob also won the weekend $10,000 Novice Horse High-Point on Sunny Rey Solano, furthering their chase for the Area 6 trophy, as well as bringing home a trophy winter blanket. Jim Spalla and Hollys Prince Jewel continued their money earning ways in Saturday’s $2000 Limited Rider Class, earning 4th place.

On the road again…in South Dakota

Futurity flurry continues, with Bob Janssen taking Janssen Performance Horses on the road to Huron, South Dakota for the SDCHA Futurity/Derby/Classic. The event started today and runs though Sunday. He once again has High Brow Madonna, Lenas Lucky Chic and Red Hot Chicaway entered in the futurity, and with one round down (today) all three are contenders to make it back. High Brow Madonna finished second in the go-round for owners Mark & Patti Blackwell of Delano, MN. Red Hot Chicaway, owned by Jim Bean/Catherine Hazelroth of Rogers, MN also had a nice first round, despite a gnarly second cow.  Not very many clients joined Bob out there this weekend, but in addition to his futurity entries, he will be showing JPH-owned Sunny Rey Solano in the $10,000 Novice Horse class on Friday and Saturday. While this duo has the MCHA year-end $10,000 championship locked up, they remain in a tight race for the Area 6 championship trophy. Jim Spalla, JPH team member from Ogema, MN, is joining Bob out there also for the weekend classes. He and fellow JPH team member, Jon Dorau, are also in a close race for the Area 6 $2000 Limited Rider championship.

Football season has descended upon the Janssen household, with Ryan a member of the Rush City Junior High team. Ryan and I stayed home this week: he has school, football practice, as well as his first football scrimmage and first confirmation session. I’m tending my business and looking forward to being ”football mom” on Saturday while watching his team scrimmage Pine City & Hinckley. I will be dually cheering “Go JPH!” and “Go Tigers!”

Bob Janssen brings two back to the MCHA Royal Flush Futurity finals

Janssen Performance Horses had a strong showing at the MCHA Royal Flush Limited Aged Event and weekend show. Bob finished second in the first go-round on Mark & Patti Blackwell’s High Brow Madonna (by Highbrow Cat) and came back strong enough in the second round for a finals qualifying run. Madonna ended up fifth in the finals, marking the second time in as many futurity appearances that this dynamic mare made the finals.

Jeremy & Jen Lindman’s Smart Chicaway gelding, Lenas Lucky Chic, was a go-round money earner in both goes (finishing second in the second go) and also made it to the finals. Red Hot Chicaway, owned by Jim Bean and Catherine Hazelroth showed to a strong second-go showing, but missed the finals.

A special congratulations to Lynn Gabriel, who after a few months of practice and a month of having her horse in training at JPH, showed at her very first show. Not only did Lynn get through her run, but she placed 4th in a 22-member tough $2000 Limited Rider class and earned her first NCHA paycheck. Way to go Lynn!

Ryan Lind and Bob Janssen continued their winning ways on the Dual Rey son, Sunny Rey Solano. Bob won the $10,000 Novice Horse class on Sunday, while Ryan placed third in the $2000 LR on Saturday and won that class on Sunday, ending up the weekend high-point champion and recipient of a trophy saddle pad.

Jon Dorau continues his quest for the Area 6 $2000 Limited Rider championship, placing 2nd on Sunday. Jon and fellow JPH client, Jim Spalla, are locked in a tight race for the Area 6 trophy in that category.
